Still I Rise September initiatives received national and international media attention. In particular, the “Through Our Eyes” exhibition in Chicago drew the interest of several U.S. media outlets. On September 28, TV station FOX 32 dedicated a segment of the Good Day Chicago broadcast to it, with a live interview with Luca Di Vito, director of the Italian Cultural Institute, which is hosting the exhibition. “Through Our Eyes” appeared in three editions of the broadcast.
Additionally on September 20, the arts and culture magazine Newcity Art published a review of “Through Our Eyes” in the article “Young Refugees with Cameras: A Review of Through Our Eyes at Italian Cultural Institute” by Susan Aurinko.
Major local newspapers covered the exhibition. The Chicago Reader, for example, listed “Through Our Eyes” as one of the must-see exhibitions this fall, and some of the most important publications specializing in photography exhibitions in the United States, such as Photograph Magazine, also gave space to it.
The news of the opening of Still I Rise’s Emergency and Rehabilitation School in Yemen found space in the international media as well. On September 29, the Italian section of Australia’s public broadcaster SBS (Special Broadcasting Service) posted an interview with Giovanni Volpe, General Counsel of Still I Rise. News stories about the project in Yemen were also published in Italy, by digital newspapers and news agencies, including DIRE. As reported by Redattore Sociale, “the facility will initially house about 60 girls and children between the ages of 10 and 14, offering education and protection in one of the most complicated contexts in the world, afflicted by nine years of civil war.”
The educational model of Still I Rise was at the center of an in-depth interview with Nicolò Govoni published on September 8 by Francesco Puggioni of Startupitalia. The CEO of the organization retraces the stages that have marked the growth of Still I Rise and explains that the destination of this journey will be our country : “The journey will end in Italy, where the goal is to open an international school made up of half Italian and half refugee students,” says Nicolò Govoni. “We want to bring and test an alternative approach, the one used by our organization, which we believe can be a viable alternative for the future, with the hope that it can become a case study and change the school system in our country.”
The commitment of Nicolò Govoni and Still I Rise is also highlighted by the Osservatore Romano, in the article “What links youth and poverty”, published on September 2 by Giuditta Bonsangue. The piece focuses on social initiatives put in place by the younger generation.
Finally, several local and national newspapers, including Il Resto del Carlino and Il Venerdì di Repubblica, featured the return of “Clown&Clown”, the international festival organized in Monte San Giusto. On September 30, the event “A school of happiness: taking the weight off error” featured alongside Enrico Galiano the participation of Nicolò Govoni and two students from the “Still I Rise international school” in Nairobi.
